Systems Support Specialist at Detroit

This role is for the position of an IMS Technical Support Specialist who will be an integral member of the IMS development laboratory team and is responsible for insuring a high level of customer satisfaction and partnering through ongoing communication, providing education, consulting and coordination of customer IMS migrations, feature utilization, environment analysis and support for specific issues as requested by our customers. Our key mission is facilitating customer communications with IMS development and management.

The position is for a highly motivated individual who can work independently and travel to customers world wide. As a client facing IMS laboratory technical specialist you will provide guidance on and direction on IMS application architecture and solution design, IMS database design and operational control, IMS base software configuration, customer testing and production rollout project activities.

This position allows exciting opportunities to deal with some of IBMs largest customers in the world. Activities include not only general customer support but giving presentations at conferences or customer locations, giving structured class room training on IMS features, consulting work to assist customers where a unique skill is required, writing of reports and project management.

The ideal candidate must have a strong background in IMS from a System programmer perspective. DBA knowledge and application skills with Cobol, PLI and assembler are a plus.
The position is on a team of highly skilled and motivated professionals. Travel is required and leadership skills are a must. Multi tasking, timely completion of projects, team work, strong speaker abilities and communication are vital.

Uses technical and negotiation skills in collaboration with other support operations/organizations to prioritize and diagnose problems to resolution. Communicates action plans to the client or IBM representative as appropriate. Recommends and implements new or improvements to existing technical support tools, procedures, and processes. May provide training for and mentor others on the team. Contributes to department attainment of organizational objectives and high client satisfaction.

Other skills beneficial to the job are zOS performance skills and basic CICS, MQ and DB2. Extensive IMS knowledge is essential and required for consideration.

  • At least 10 years experience in IMS System Knowledge
  • Readiness to travel 50% travel annually
