Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Global Product Development Lead Engineer opening to join our Refrigeration Engineering organization.

 

Day to Day (what a typical day or week look like in this role)

Provide leadership for the Global Craftsmanship attribute through technical expertise, product design experience, and leveraging best technical solutions and practices from various industries and around the world. This person will be accountable to collect, identify, proactively sharing best practices, guarantee their implementation in all regions, create maintain and foster design guidelines for new developments. The primary focus of attention of this role will be on key elements of Refrigeration Craftsmanship.

 

Responsibility will also include bringing to the product development space any advance development projects in the Craftsmanship (Fit, feel and finish) area.

 

The candidate will work with his Craftsmanship and Sensorial counterparts within the Global Consumer Design group to identify well crafted products globally, both our products as well as competitors. Understand what makes these products benchmarks and bring ideas and identify projects to gain attribute leadership in this field.

 

The candidate will have involvement in product design developments globally, starting from industrial design sketches and concepts to actual engineering developments. He/she will be interacting with a geographically diverse professional staff to achieve excellence in design processes, design quality and product development. The successful candidate will champion collaboration with our global consumer design, global product development, and manufacturing teams to inspire and lead the development process in the key elements of Craftsmanship. The position will report to the Global Systems Engineering Senior Manager in Refrigeration. It will involve travel both to Product Development Centers and to Whirlpool Manufacturing sites around the globe.

 

 

What You Will Do:

• Establish best-in-class craftsmanship know how knowledge, practices and processes gathering and leveraging design and knowledge of all regions as well as other industries to drive improvement on existing and new Product Development from Craftsmanship standpoint.
• Develop key core competencies in the areas of Doors, Handles, Shelves, Crispers.
• Develop a clear and substantial understanding of current design solutions in the industry through competitive benchmarking landscape.
• Drive engineering knowledge and technical solutions that lead us to Craftsmanship leadership products (in the sensorial and visual space).
• Develop and implement best-practices in design approaches, and standard work (for design reviews, toll gates, FMEA, etc.)
• Collaborate with Advance Development projects in Sensorial and Lighting space so they can be carried on to Product Development Programs.
• Approximately 15% travel to domestic and international locations (to Whirlpool development sites as well as manufacturing locations). Trips are likely to last several days each.

Qualifications

What You Need To Succeed:

• BSME, BSE & BFA, BSID, Mechanical Engineering & Industrial Design
• MSE, MSME Preferred
• Minimum of 7 years of experience
• Experience in Product Development, Industrial Design
• Understanding of Robust Design ( Y=f(x), Six Sigma, Tolerance Stack up )
• Critical thinking and systematic approach for design and problem solving.
• Strong leadership skills preferably with global interaction experience
• Great interpersonal and communication skills to build collaboration teams and report out to high level executives.
• This position requires execution of Whirlpools Non-Disclosure and Non-Competition Agreement.
