The Nursing Assistant performs a variety of personal care or nursing care activities which do not require practical or vocational nursing licensure; assist doctors and nurses in the performance of diagnostic examinations by performing duties such as: monitoring vital signs, preparing and positioning the patient, or by performing a variety of routine diagnostic tests; assist physician and nurses in the care and treatment of the ill receiving medical, surgical, psychiatric or outpatient treatment; follow designated charting technique to post patients charts that provides a daily outline or summary of the patients care; perform a variety of duties aimed at increasing comfort and spirit of the patient.
Incumbent completes assigned tasks assisting the RN in the care of patients who require complex nursing needs. The incumbent will also be responsible for the daily patient care for an assigned set of patients. Responsibilities include: dressing changes, bladder scans, EKGs, blood sugar monitoring and recording, tube feedings, oral suctioning, feeding and tracheotomy care. The incumbent will also be responsible for the monitor and recording of vital signs, and monthly weights, and will also assist in the transport of patients to and from appointments. The Nursing Assistant duties also include assisting patients with ADL needs; perform and assist with restorative care; feed, bathe, lift and turn patients; record and report intake and output; record patient care given, observations and responses in patients medical records. The incumbent will also be responsible for additional responsibilities assigned by the charge nurse.
Work Schedule: 12 (MN) - 8:00 am, with rotating tours and weekends and rotating shifts

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Preferred Experience: Certification as a Nursing Assistant is preferred.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 OR 4 years of education above high school leading to a bachelors degree with courses directly related to the occupation. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the position of Nursing Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience may include non-professional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home or other medical nursing or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as: providing personal nursing care such as providing pre and post operative care, support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus, caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording and reporting changes in their behavior and providing reassurance and encouragement.
