Job Description

Our Work: ADVICS has the capability to design, test and manufacture all major components of a brake system, including Antilock Braking Systems, Electronic Stability Control units, wheel speed sensors, brake pads, brake calipers, booster master cylinders and more.

Position Summary:
This position executes and evaluates the technical development activities in support of the mechanical design, development, and validation of friction material brake components (including back plates, noise shim, pad wear indicators). Specifically, this position is responsible for the technical interface, vehicle integration, customer specifications, and prototype and production release designs. Also, this position will work with internal departments, customers and suppliers to ensure proper component development. This position will assist in maintaining ADVICS’ Customer products and customer relationships.

Essentials Job Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Responsible to assist in the development of the program timing and component contents to ensure these are met through the technical development process. This includes serving as the main technical interface to the customer on assigned programs.
2. Assist in the technical product development to verify the interface of foundation brake components to the vehicle and ensuring that customer specifications are met.
3. Oversee the installation process for all foundation brake component parts during prototype phases and production launch builds at customer and/or supplier facilities. This includes determining if the fit and function of the component and developing test plans to meet ADVICS and Customer specific requirements.
4. Assist the Change Process (CP) and Engineering Change Notification (ECN) process. Including the ability to coordinate design change activities and the Request for Design & Development of Parts (RDDP) process with the appropriate Engineering Department at ADVICS-Japan.
5. Attend regular internal and customer open issues meetings; such as, Product Development Team (PDT), Cross Functional Team (CFT) and New Product Launch Team (NPLT) meetings to ensure that progress of development meets required milestones. This may include preparing reports for use at internal management review meetings or customer meetings and/or giving presentations of technical findings.
6. Collaborate with other system and design colleagues internally and at the ADVICS- Japan on project issues, design improvements and quality improvements, as required.
7. Assist in the development of new approaches and ideas to resolve technical issues. This includes providing support for full-brake system program or corner module program development activities, and innovating new improvements that may lead to patents, as necessary.
Essentials Job Responsibilities and Duties (con’t):
8. Responsible to analyze data received from tests and summarize it into meaningful facts by conducting engineering calculations, applying standard formulas, and analyzing characteristics of the foundation brake component performance. This includes leading testing at outside test facilities and performing internal testing utilizing ADVICS-NA test equipment and procuring, installing and maintaining test equipment.
9. Conduct research development trend studies of caliper and foundation components, which includes, performing investigation of benchmark parts and participating in technical conferences.

Other Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Support customers by conducting customer presentations, supporting customer trips, attending customer meetings to ensure that customer meetings have the proper technical support.
2. Assist management with maintaining DFMEA, DVP&R, PVP&R, DWO, drawings, program timing plans and other technical and program documents.
3. Other special projects, tasks or duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Most work is performed in a typical office setting; however some work will be performed in a manufacturing setting such as a plant floor or a test laboratory setting. The work is a mixture of sedentary and light industrial work.
- This position requires extensive verbal and written communication with others internal to the company and with external customers and suppliers.
- Travel is required to meeting sites, proving grounds, customer facilities and supplier and Affiliate Company manufacturing plants.
- This position may require the individual to work additional hours to meet deadlines, as necessary.
- Ability to lift prototype or quality concern parts up to a maximum of 30 lbs.
- Dusty area, oil, grease, brake fluid, and ammonia gas and other smells.

Job Requirements

Desired qualifications:
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (BSME, MSME).

Work Experience:
- No brake related experience required. However, previous full time or Co-op automotive work experience is preferred.

Special Skills:
- Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines effectively and professionally.
- Skill in effectively participating in teams made up of peers, subordinates and managers.
- Skill in communicating with others in different departments and to other people outside the organization verbally and through writing.
- Ability to use MS Office products, MS Project, Email, Internet, Voice mail, and other miscellaneous electronic devices and software products.
- Knowledge of 3D CAD specifically in CATIA, with 3D modeling and drawing, is preferred.
- Knowledge of technical drawings with ability to review and mark-up, is preferred
