This position is located in the office of the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (AD/PCS) at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. As a Program Support Assistant (OA), you will be responsible for providing support for the Nurse Professional Standards and Licensed Practical Nurse boards and report directly to the Administrative Officer for the AD/PCS. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Participates in the management of the boards by performing routine and non-routine administrative work;
· Prepares, edits, and compiles a variety of technical, management and administrative reports and briefings;
· Performs basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports;
· Collects, compiles, and tracks data and statistical information;
· Assists in the development and initiation of policies and procedures;
· Prepares recurring reports and briefings;
· Plans meetings, formulates agendas, and provides guidance and assistance to others.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a GS-6 Program Support Assistant (OA). Qualifying specialized experience includes: performing general administrative or office support work; using office automation software to create forms, documents and spreadsheets; filing documents in an office file system; answering incoming phone calls; directing office visitors to the appropriate personnel; and typing documents from rough draft and reviewing correspondence for proper format and correct grammatical content.
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:
· Experience performing administrative support to Nurse Professional Standards Board and Licensed Practical Nurse boards.
· Ability to execute total quality management responsibilities.
· Experience performing administrative and office automation work.
· Skill in operating various computer hardware and software.
· Experience complying with mandatory requirements and established business rules.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The work of this position is sedentary. Typically, you will sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
- Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
- Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
- Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
- Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group. Qualifying veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the best qualified group. The best qualified group is the first to be referred to the hiring facility for further consideration and possible interview. The remaining groups may be referred based on the number of applicants available.
