POSITION SUMMARY

Designs, develops, implements, maintains, and enhances telecommunication networks, systems and equipment. Analyzes existing networks and equipment and identifies opportunities for improvement. Develops solutions that meet business requirements. Familiar with a variety of the fields concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to Manager of Network Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Network architecture and design including network security, bandwidth availability and utilization.

Analyze, design, develop and test network systems to ensure integration of software, hardware, reliability and maintainability.

Identify ways to streamline and eliminate redundancies, creating increased efficiency.

Perform cost-benefit and risk analyses.

Perform other duties that may include new product testing, quality assurance, hardware testing, documentation, and the design or modification of technical training programs.

Work closely with Information Security to address vulnerabilities and find appropriate fixes.

Ensure requirements are met and documented prior to implementation.

Ensure all support documentation is kept current.

Provide on-call support of all network infrastructure and applications.

Administer software applications, network systems and databases.

Responsible for completion of projects and working under high levels of responsibility and autonomy. May direct others to project completion.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated passion for innovation, and a sophisticated understanding of various telecommunications systems.

Experience researching, investigating, evaluating and qualifying potential new equipment for network deployment.

Extensive engineering design, monitoring and analysis experiences.

Complete understanding of all telecommunication network system functionality, efficiencies and interfaces.

Expertise in IP Routing technologies like OSPF and BGP.

Strong knowledge of networking principles to include understanding of TCP/IP, IP Sub-netting, VLANs, Ethernet, DHCP, DNS, and QoS.

Strong knowledge of VoIP Telephony.

Strong understanding of WAN technologies such as MPLS and knowledge of SIP and H.323 protocols.

Experience in Cisco Gateway configurations and administration with strong knowledge of Cisco IOS gateways.

Experience with Adtran OS configurations and administration with an emphasis on the Adtran Total Access product line.

Experience with voice carrier networks and TDM.

5+ years of experience in Cisco voice / data communications are required.

Cisco CCNA, CCNP, and CCVP certifications are a plus.

Experience in delivering Technical Training and Technical presentations to co-workers.

Extensive technical knowledge of Information Technology field and computer systems.

Strong problem solving and analytic skills to isolate problems, recommend solutions, and the implementation of solutions.

Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to organize, prioritize, and articulate job tasks and complete the tasks in a timely fashion.

Proven ability to engage with and communicate with customers, vendors, service providers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.

Logical, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to react quickly to a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.

Must display initiative, ability to work independently and be able to use extensive independent judgment.

Knowledge of systems architecture to include servers (UNIX and Windows), LAN/WAN technology and security infrastructure.

Excellent computer skills are necessary in Word, Excel, Presentation, Project, and Visio.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
