Learning & Development Specialist Lead (Taylor MI)


Job Summary:
Implement, maintain and monitor systems, processes, and programs in support of employee safety, including promoting, teaching and educating employees on safe work behaviors, and driver initiatives including but not limited to safety awareness programs, policy, remedial training and monitoring.

Essential Functions:
  • Coordinate, schedule, record and conduct safety training for drivers and other employees using a variety of instructional techniques and formats including but not limited to classroom training, exercises, and e-learning. Training topics include but are not limited to; pre and post accident training to eliminate accidents, defensive driving techniques, yearly training for drivers, elog and obcs training, company standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Review and investigate individual driver safety and performance issues, review findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with accident investigations/ reviews to determine facts, preventability, counseling and training
  • Promote and educate employees on safety culture, educate proper safe work habits and process/procedures
  • Conduct driver meetings and hold driver forums to obtain drivers opinions and feedback
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Performs other duties and assists with special projects as necessary or assigned.

Scope and Accountability:

Completes specialized tasks that frequently require the exchange of detailed technical information; establishes technical protocols and procedures; leads improvement initiatives. Applies advanced technical skills. Uses judgment to identify when deviation from standard practice is required. Typically coordinates people and resources across different teams. Provides guidance and technical support to others.

Knowledge/Experience: This position requires:
  • Minimum 3 years over the road driving experience
  • Valid class a cdl with Passenger and Hazardous Materials Endorsements
  • Valid DOT Physical Exam Certification/Card
  • Knowledge of FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations)
  • Knowledge of designing, developing and delivering training programs
  • Knowledge of US and Canadian geography
  • Sufficient typing skills to perform job functions
  • Knowledge of Windows-based software, including Microsoft office
  • Experience in effectively interacting with and influencing employees/managers
  • High school diploma or equivalency


Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment : The duties of this job are performed in both an office environment and a light industrial environment, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to office equipment and industrial equipment. Travel may be required.
